ArchaeoTek

Archaeotek Bio/Archaeological Techniques and Research Center

ArchaeoTek aimed to elevate its online presence as the go-to destination for field and laboratory education and research opportunities in Transylvania, Romania, catering to archaeology and anthropology enthusiasts. This was achieved through a comprehensive website redesign.

The project involved updating the interface to enhance navigation and accessibility, along with coding the design using HTML and CSS to ensure responsiveness across various screen sizes.
Project Type:
Web,
HTML & CSS

Tools:
Figma,
Visual Studio Code

Problems

The existing website suffers from a lack of user-focused content, presenting project information in a manner that fails to effectively engage users and communicate the relevance and benefits of Archaeotek's initiatives. Furthermore, the outdated visual design and limited mobile responsiveness contribute to a suboptimal user experience, making it difficult for users to navigate and interact with the site across various devices. These issues, combined with the website's lack of professionalism, may lead to potential trust concerns, as users might question the legitimacy of the organization based on the site's appearance and functionality.

Goals

After thoroughly reviewing their website, I identified an opportunity to enhance the user experience by streamlining the site's UI/UX. The current design lacks professionalism, which could lead potential users to question the site's legitimacy. In casual conversations with other users, it became clear that a more polished and professional appearance is necessary to instill trust and dispel any concerns. My goal is to create a more intuitive, user-friendly interface that reflects the services offered.

Design
Solutions

01.
Upon entering the site, a full-page video of archaeological techniques plays with an overlay of Archaeotek's logo. This engaging onboarding experience aims to captivate users from the start.

The navigation menu has been moved to the left side of all screens, ensuring easy access throughout the website.

02.
The new landing page features direct links to all active projects, providing clear descriptions and encouraging users to explore further. This approach minimizes user drop-off, which was an issue on the previous site.

03.
I created a simple yet consistent design system that can easily adapt to mobile, web, and other screens.

The new design is more digestible and allows for growth alongside the organization.

Coding
HTML & CSS

With the goal of ensuring a seamless user experience across devices., and in addition to conducting thorough research and creating user-focused designs, I took on the challenge of coding the website using HTML, CSS, and a touch of JavaScript.
